mynet iOS7 Application Design

mynet is an iOS7 application that I designed as a personal project. My goal was to create a simple, monthly income and expenses tracker to keep an eye on my monthly net income.

The Challenge

There are numerous, well known applications that help individuals track their finances, set goals, and pay bills. These applications are great for seeing a snapshot of your overall financial overview. I wanted to create something more basic that I could use on a daily basis to monitor my expenses and keep a daily tab on my net income for current and previous months. My challenge was to create an application that would include only the most necessary information and encourage ease of use.

The Users

This application is meant as a personal net income tracker. Users who like to keep a close eye on their income and expenses are the intended audience. In order for the application to be used successfully, one will need to enter income and expenses on a daily basis. Those who will benefit the most are users who are very diligent about their personal finance.

The Process

I'm able to save more money when I'm serious about keeping track of my expenses. On occasion I've carried around a notebook and written down every transaction I've made on a daily basis. At the end of the month I'd enter every transaction into an excel spreadsheet to see my net income for the month. I wanted this app to replace my expense notebook and allow me to see my net income throughout the month. I started the project by brainstorming the functionality that I knew I needed. Once I had narrowed it down I dove into my sketchbook where I started creating rough wireframes. Once my wireframes were completed I was able to jump into Illustrator. As I ran into problems, I would bounce back to my notebook to figure out a solution before sitting in front of my computer.

The Solution

Arriving at solutions for this application was iterative. Although I've completed the intial design process, small problems and minor bugs will likely occur. This project is a work in progress, and once the project is built, there will certainly be more design decisions to be made.
